Description:

The Springfield Model 1861 rifle-musket was the primary weapon used by the Union infantry during the Civil War and is an important piece for any U.S. martial or Civil War collection. These rifles are similar to the Model 1855 but are not equipped with the Maynard primer devices that had proved more troublesome than helpful. This standard example in high condition is dated "1862" on the lock and barrel, standard "Eagle/Shield" motif and "U.S./SPRINGFIELD" markings on the lock ahead of the hammer, and two cartouches are on the left stock flat, including that of Master Armorer Erksine S. Allin.

Rating Definition:

Exceptionally fine with the metal showing light patina and otherwise bright polish. The markings are crisp. The stock is excellent and has minimal handling and storage type marks and dings and crisp cartouches. Mechanically excellent. This U.S. Model 1861 Springfield is nearly as issued. Would definitely fill that vacant slot in your collection nicely!
