Manufactured in 1879. The ejectorless Sheriff's Model barrel is stamped with the two-line Colt London address on top and has the desirable acid etched "COLT D.A. 38" panel on the left side. London "crown/V" and "crown/GP" proof and inspection marks are stamped near each of the six cylinder flutes and on the underside of the barrel. The left side of the frame has the three-line patent dates marking, and the left side of the trigger guard is marked "38 CAL." Matching serial numbers are on the frame, trigger guard, back strap and cylinder ("476"). Finished in high polish blue and case colors and fitted with a checkered walnut grip. The partitioned oak case features a Colt London paper label on the interior of the lid, cartridge block and blue velvet lining. A bore brush and cleaning rod/screwdriver are included.

Excellent, retaining 97% bright original high polish blue finish with slight thinning on the grip straps and some speckling of brown on the cylinder. The etched panel is clear, and the remaining markings are crisp. 98% plus vivid original case colors remain on the frame. Nearly all of the original niter blue remains on the hammer and trigger. The grip is fine with crisp recut checkering and very minimal handling marks. Mechanically excellent. The case is very fine with minor handling/storage marks and some typical high spot wear on the lining. Nearly all of the Colt London label remains. This Colt London Sheriff's Model 1877 Lightning would be near impossible to improve upon!
