Description:

Manufactured in 1878 as an ejectorless variation with a 4 1/2 inch barrel. The barrel is stamped with the two-line Colt London address marking and has the desirable acid etched "COLT. D.A. 38" panel on the left side. London "crown/V" and "crown/GP" proof and inspection marks are stamped near each of the six cylinder flutes and on the underside of the barrel. The left side of the frame has the three-line patent dates marking, and the left side of the trigger guard is marked "38 CAL." Matching serial numbers are on the frame, trigger guard, back strap and cylinder ("581"). Finished in high polish blue and case colors and fitted with pearl grips. The partitioned case contains a cartridge block, case key and cleaning rod with attachment.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retaining 85% professionally restored high polish blue finish with thinning to a brown on the balance and some smooth gray patina on the back strap. 95% case colors remain on the frame. 95% niter blue remains on the hammer and trigger. The grips are very good with some material absent at the top (left panel), hairline age crack (right panel), some scattered edge chipping and some minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. The relined custom case is fine with some minor handling/storage marks, minor filled repair on the lid and some typical high spot wear on the lining.
