The accompanying factory letter confirms the 4 3/4 inch barrel in .44-40 caliber, nickel plating and pearl grips with "carved steer head motif." The revolver was sold to W.A Beckel (address unavailable) and shipped to Momsen, Dunnegan & Ryan of El Paso, Texas, on August 11, 1916. This shipment contained three guns. The barrel is stamped with the two-line Hartford address on top and "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER .44-40" on the left side. The left side of the frame has the two-line patent dates followed by a Rampant Colt. The left side of the trigger guard is stamped with the number "1" and the Colt factory triangle proof. The right side of the grip frame (under the grip panel) is electro-pencil marked "Tex 03269052." The assembly number "283" is on the loading gate and rear of the frame. Matching serial numbers are on the frame, trigger guard, back strap, and cylinder ("3609" on rear face). The revolver is fitted with Rampant Colt medallion pearl grips featuring the highly desirable factory documented relief carved steer head on the right panel. As Colt historian and author R.L. Wilson noted, only "a few" SAAs had factory hand carved steer head motif grips.

Very good, retaining 90% period replated nickel finish along with minor scratches and a few blemish on the edges and recoil shield. The grips are very good with a couple spliced repairs, couple chips, some minor handling marks and crisp steer head carving. The cylinder does not lock properly when the action is decocked, otherwise action functions fine with extremely light trigger pull. A Frontier Six Shooter SAA with factory steer head carved grip is a must have for the serious Colt single action collector.
