Produced by the Providence Tool Company circa 1866 - 1871. Originally developed during the Civil War, many of these rifles were exported for foreign military use, and this rifle has the "WC" cartouche on the stock used on the exported rifles and carbines. It also features blade front and folding ladder rear sights, German "crown/V" on-hand proofs on top of the barrel and frame at the breech, small inspection marks, and "PEABODY'S PAT./JULY 22, 1862/MAN'F'D BY/PROVIDENCE TOOL CO./PROV. R.I." on the left side of the frame.
