This stunning Fabrique National Mauser rifle is from the collection of the late Jim Wilkinson of Prescott, Arizona. Wilkinson grew up spending his summers working the family Granite Dells Ranch in Arizona and returning to his native Illinois for school in the fall. Wilkinson attended the University of Illinois and began his career in his families Central Illinois lumberyards. In 1946, he permanently moved to Arizona to work his own ranch in Granite Dells, and establish the Rifle Ranch a gun store specializing in custom rifles, hand loading, and shooting supplies. Wilkinson was an avid hunter with expeditions to Canada, and Alaska as well as more exciting destinations such as Africa, Afghanistan, India, and Nepal, all in the pursuit of mountain sheep. Wilkinson would become the 10th person in the world to achieve the "Super Slam" which is a collection of 16 different types of wild sheep found on four separate continents. Wilkinson passed away in 2001. The FN Mauser action features a lightweight tapered barrel with mid-barrel band, "No. 1600 RIFLE RANCH - PRESCOTT, AZ" inscription on top, and ".270 WINH" caliber marking on left side of the chamber. The receiver is fitted with a one-piece Redfield swivel scope base, Leupold Vari-X III 2.5-8 scope with leather lens caps, polished bolt body and extractor, checkered bolt handle knob, and Jaeger adjustable trigger. The trigger guard assembly and floorplate are fully engraved in an attractive oak leaf and acorn motif with a highly detailed pronghorn antelope at the center. With a light colored Circassian walnut checkered pistol grip stock with dark mineral lines, fine checkering at the forend and grip, rosewood forend cap, deep chiseled grip cap depicting a walking polar bear, raised cheekpiece, and fully engraved trapdoor buttplate with matching oak leaf and acorn motif around the edge and a detailed bull caribou scene in the center. Includes a "1965" dated paper outlining the features. The sheet also states the engraved portions were done in Ferlach, Austria by an engraver named "Mack" likely Austrian Master Engraver Franz Mack.
