Description:

Around 9,500 of the Pocket Model revolvers were manufactured by James Warner in Springfield, Mass., from the late 1850s to late 1860s, but only a few hundred were in .28 caliber with round barrels. This one appears to be a transitional example as it does not have the standard features of any of the listed variations and is also desirable thanks to its rare engraving and special grips. Another example with essentially the same engraving and very similar grips, other than a male face, is known that is just four numbers earlier. The round barrel has a cone front sight and the matching serial number on the bottom. The frame has scroll engraving, traces of the one-line address marking on the top strap, and an added (removable) "JD" collection type marking on the lower right. The cylinder has etched martial patterns and no safety notches or patent marking. The left grip is carved with Columbia over a patriotic shield.

Rating Definition:

Good with mostly dark gray patina, some mild pitting, generally distinct engraving, somewhat faded markings and etching, and some marks and scratches. The grips are good with a few noticeable aged chips, cracks, distinct carving, and aged patina. Mechanically fine.
