Documented Smith & Wesson .44 Double Action First Model Double Action Revolver in Rare .38-40 WCF

Falls within the .44 DA First Model revolver serial number range but chambered in rare .38-40 WCF caliber. This revolver is pictured and identified in Neal and Jinks' "Smith & Wesson, 1857-1945" on page 197, attributed to pioneer S&W collector Robert Nadler, and the authors noted, "Only a few of this models were chambered in .38-40 WCF." 1 9/16 inch cylinder, barrel marked "38 WINCHESTER CTG.", December 1943 factory return date on the grip frame, and matching serial numbers on the butt, cylinder, barrel and barrel latch.

ConditionVery fine, retaining 98% plus of the factory reapplied nickel plating with minimal handling evidence. Nearly all vibrant case colors remain on the hammer and trigger. The replacement grips are very good with some worn checkering and some minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. Provenance: Robert N. Nadler collection and Dr. Gerald Klaz who purchased the entire Nadler collection intact in the mid-1970s.
