Manufactured circa 1850 The top barrel flat is signed "Leandro Candano" in flush gold and is stamped with the barrel smith's mark of Ybarzabal. The octagon barrel section features ornate scroll and urn motifs inlaid in flush gold. Wonderful relief floral and scroll patterns on a gold highlighted background are featured on the lock plate, lion head sculpted hammer, trigger guard, trigger guard finial, barrel tang and heel tang. The relief pattern is repeated as a band on the round barrel section at the mid-point. A dog head is incorporated in the scrollwork on the lock. Relief floral blossoms adorn the barrel plug. The trigger guard tang has an ornate sculpted hand stop spur. The two barrel bands are silver, with the front band appearing to be a replacement. Mounted on a nicely figured full length stock.

Fine. The barrel has a traces of the twist pattern remaining, a mottled brown-gray patina, some minor spotting and a blockage located about 1 inch from the breech. The remaining metal surfaces have Most of the gold remains. The refinished stock is also fine with a tiny filled repair at the lock and some minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
