Description:

Manufactured for commercial sale, the Standard Model Mauser was very close in configuration to the military issue 98k rifle, and was sought out by both sport shooters and paramilitary organizations. Blade front and tangent rear sights, with the Mauser banner and "1934" on the receiver ring, commercial "crown/letter" proofs, and "MAUSER-WERKE A.-G. OBERNDORF A/N." on the left sidewall. Matching numbers are present on the barrel, receiver, bolt components, floorplate and trigger guard. The smooth pistol grip stock is fitted with a leather sling and a flat steel buttplate, with the left side of the buttstock stamped "Z/S inside a reversed 3", "D.R;" and "D.R./4196"; a number of German state organs had the initials "D.R", for "Deutsche Reichs..." (German Empire/Nation), though it has been indicated by the consignor that this was intended for the Deutsche Reichsbahn, the German National Railway. A blued steel muzzle protector is included, as is a blued steel bayonet with wood grips, black enamel finished sheath, leather frog and a copper/black portapee.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, with 95% plus original blue finish, showing some light edge wear and mild handling marks. The stock is fine, with cracking at the wrist, and a number of light scuffs and dings. The fine bayonet shows light wear, with a number of scuffs and scratches on the sheath. Mechanically excellent.
