Manufactured in 1906. The accompanying factory letter lists this highly desirable special order Winchester deluxe Model 1894 rifle with a nickel steel octagon barrel in .32-40, plain trigger, checkered pistol grip stock, Lyman target #17 sight, Lyman combination rear cup disc, no rear sight seat, half magazine and cheek piece when received in the warehouse on April 13, 1907 and shipped on April 15. The letter lists a repair and return date for December 13, 1910, likely when the rifle received the part octagon barrel in .32 W.S. The upper left barrel flat is stamped with the two-line address/patent dates legend followed by the nickel steel marking and "32 W.S" at the breech. A Winchester factory oval proof is stamped on the barrel and receiver at the breech. The rifle is fitted with a dovetailed globe front sight, no rear sight dovetail cut, and a receiver mounted Lyman peep sight. The left of the lower tang has the three-line model/trade mark information. The lower tang is marked "3159 X CP", with the assembly number "3159" repeated on the buttplate and stock under the buttplate. Mounted with a finely figured, checkered forearm and pistol grip "perch belly" stock with hard rubber Winchester grip cap, shadow-line cheek piece and crescent buttplate. While there are several special order features on this Model 1894, perhaps no other feature is rarer than the cheek piece. As Winchester expert and author George Madis has noted, "Cheek piece stocks were a special feature offered for all models but were seldom fitted."
