Manufactured in 1896 per George Madis' serial number range. The accompanying factory letter lists this rifle with a .30 caliber round barrel, set trigger (currently a plain trigger), checkered pistol grip stock and takedown configuration when received in the warehouse on July 29, 1899 and shipped on October 17. The barrel is fitted with a dovetail blade front sight and an elevation adjustable rear sight and is stamped with the two-line address and "30 W.C.F." on top and the nickel steel marking on the left side. The upper tang has the three-line model/patent date marking. The deluxe "XXX" walnut forearm and pistol grip stock feature "H" style checkering. The pistol grip stock is fitted with a Winchester hard rubber grip cap and a crescent buttplate. The lower tang is marked "7864 XXX." The assembly number "7864" is repeated on the buttstock under the buttplate and on the back of the buttplate.

Very fine, retaining 80% original blue finish with the balance thinning to a brown. 60% of the refinished nitre blue remaining on the loading gate. Patterns of original case colors remain on the buttplate, and 50% original case colors remain on the hammer and lever. The wood is also very fine with slight chipping at the tangs, minor dings and scratches throughout and crisp checkering overall. Mechanically excellent. An attractive deluxe takedown variation of the famed Winchester Model 1894.
