The accompanying factory letter lists this special order Winchester deluxe Model 1892 short rifle with a 20 half octagon barrel in .32 caliber, plain trigger, checkered pistol grip stock, Lyman rear and front sights, 1/2 magazine, shotgun hard rubber buttplate and takedown configuration when received in the warehouse on June 16, 1904 and shipped the next day. This deluxe variation of the Winchester Model 1892 has several scarce and highly desirable special order features including the 20 inch part octagon barrel, magazine length and hard rubber shotgun buttplate. Model 1892 short rifles are scarce as most purchasers of short-barreled Model 1892s preferred carbines. The rifle is fitted with a beaded Lyman blade front sight, a filler block in the rear sight dovetail slot and a Lyman receiver sight. The top barrel flat is stamped with the two-line address/patent date marking and "32 W.C.F." at the breech. The upper tang has the three-line model/trade mark information. The serial number is on the underside of the frame. The highly figured deluxe "XX" walnut forearm and pistol grip stock feature "H" style checkering. The buttstock if fitted with a Winchester hard rubber grip cap and shotgun buttplate. The left side of the lower tang is marked "19034 XX." The stock inlet is marked with the model number "92."
