Description:

This is a very attractive Native American portrait taken and later colored by Laton Alton Huffman (1854-1931). He was among the best of the late 19th century western photographers and tinted and enlarged many of his earlier photographs in the later part of his life. Wolf Voice was born into the Gros Ventre but married into the Northern Cheyenne and served as a scout and interpreter for the U.S. government and as an Indian policeman. The bottom of the print is marked "Huffman Photo Miles Mont 'Wolf Voice' Gros Ventre" and "9-14." The print measures approximately 13 1/4 by 19 1/4 inches and comes in a decorative 19th century style frame measuring 22 3/4 by 29 1/8 inches.

Rating Definition:

Very good with very clear image and minor age and storage related wear including some light chipping at the frame corners. Provenance: The John Fox Collection.
