Description:

These carbines were based on pre-Civil War designs by Major General Ambrose Burnside. Approximately 43,000 of these "Model of 1864" Fifth Model carbines with the distinctive guide screw at the center of the frame were manufactured circa 1863-1865, and this example shows the standard markings and features as well as a cartouche on the left of the wrist.

Rating Definition:

Fine, retains 40% plus original blue finish and 50% original case colors with the balance a smooth grey patina and a few scattered patches of light pitting. The sanded and reoiled wood is very good with minor dings and scratches scattered throughout and a clear cartouche on the wrist. Mechanically excellent.
