Description:

These Colt rifle-muskets were produced throughout the Civil War under contract with the Union and state governments and were among the highest quality rifle-muskets of the war. An estimated 100,000 muskets were manufactured by the end of the war. This "1863" dated (barrel and lock plate) example has the standard markings and features and has "N.J" markings on the left of the barrel and stock flat. This rifle was likely plated shortly after the Civil War for parade or cadet use.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retains 90% period retailer applied nickel finish with a few scattered patches of light pitting, some scattered light flaking, and crisp markings. The reoiled wood is also very fine with a few scattered light dings and scratches, some scattered minor chips along edges, and a crisp cartouche. Mechanically excellent.
