Description:

Emil Kerner (1863-1940) began operations in Suhl c. 1890. This rifle is marked "EMIL KERNER" and "SUHL" on the upper right and left barrel flats, respectively. The entire upper flat of the barrel is matted, it is fitted with a dovetailed ramped globe front sight, sling swivel on the bottom, and is drilled and tapped for scope mounting. The action has a crosshatched pattern engraved on top with the remainder almost entirely covered floral scroll, a man on the left, and a woman on the right, both in Bavarian style clothing. There is a block on the upper tang fitted with a large-dished peep sight and it is fitted with double set triggers. The engraving continues on the trigger guard and buttplate. It is mounted with a nicely figured, floral carved, and checkered forearm and schuetzen style buttstock with a large dished cheekpiece, sling swivel, and Swiss style buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very good, retains traces of original blue finish and faint traces of original case color pattered with the balance mostly a smooth grey patina and some spotting on the barrel. The wood is also very good with some scattered minor dings and scratches throughout, a thin repair on the bottom of the wrist, and mostly crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
