Manufactured circa 1874. with browned Damascus barrels, with 2 1/2 inch chambers, small pin front sight, smooth concave rib marked "PATENT" and "WESTLEY RICHARDS. 170 NEW BOND St. LONDON", Birmingham proofs and London reproofs dated 2009 on the underside, single extractor, and engraved doll's head rib extension. The casehardened bar-in-wood patent snap action with wood extending over the action knuckle, locks, and hammers feature fine scroll engraving, and are signed "WESTLEY RICHARDS" on each lock, and the hammer heads are engraved to look like fish. Checkered Deeley fastener forearm with the wood extending over the shoe, horn tip insert, and straight grip checkered stock with blank silver initial oval, and blued steel buttplate. Comes with period leather case with maker's label and instructions for cleaning label and green baize interior, glass oil bottle, and cleaning brush.

Very fine with 90% of the rebrowned finish remaining with various spots of wear and clear markings. The action, lock, hammers, and trigger plate retain 70% subdued original casehardened finish, with crisp engraving and some light spotting. The trigger guard, top lever, and buttplate retain 60% of the original blue finish. The wood is very fine as lightly refreshed with sharp checkering and scattered handling marks. The case is good with scattered heavy scratches and scuffs with replacement leather on the initial area, ends, handle, and straps. The locking latch is absent. The period of use relined interior has some areas of wear and the labels are oil stained but intact. Mechanically excellent. Provenance: The Malcolm King Collection.
