Elaborate Mexican Embroidered Leather Holster Cut for a Borchardt Model 1893 Semi-Automatic Pistol Attributed to Francisco Romero Rubio, Brother-in-Law of Mexican President Porfirio Diaz

The holster is black leather with wire stitched borders, silver embroidered floral scroll patterns and intertwined initials "FRR" near the center with the central "R" in green. It was attributed by the consignor as made for Francisco Romero Rubio (full name Francisco Javier Alberto Justo Romero Rubio y Castelló), son of Mexican politician and President Porfirio Diaz adviser Manuel Romero Rubio and brother of Diaz's second wife, Carmen Romero Rubio. Borchardt pistols are historically significant as the first mass-produced semi-automatic pistols. One is reported to have been presented to Porfirio Diaz around 1896, possibly in relation to Mexico's adoption of Mauser rifles. Perhaps Romero Rubio also acquired one around that time.

ConditionFine with mild overall wear including some flaking of the leather and small spots of loss on the embroidery. This is a very interesting Mexican holster cut for the scarce Borchardt C-93 pistol, the first mass-produced semi-automatic pistol. The ultimate Borchardt accessory item!
