Description:

The first issue manufactured from 1865 to 1868, this example is the early type with the 1859 patent date on the barrel. The floral scrollwork on a stippled background covers most of the surface. The three engraved panel scenes feature a dog on the cylinder, a stag on the side plate, and a duck on the right side of the frame. Single wide gold inlaid bands are on the barrel at the muzzle and cylinder at the front. A single silver inlaid band is on the cylinder at the rear. Matching assembly marks are on the grip frame, barrel and cylinder.

Rating Definition:

Fine as embellished, retaining 95% of the period reapplied blue finish with the balance a smooth gray patina. The engraving is crisp. Some darkened case colors The grips are excellent with minimal heralding marks and attractive colors. Mechanically excellent. Provenance: Dr. Gerald Klaz collection.
