Winchester Model 1886 Rifle was originally manufactured in 1892 and subsequently returned to the factory for re-barrel and possibly additional work. The rifle has a color casehardened receiver, forearm cap, hammer and lever, with a blued finish on the remaining metal parts. The top of the barrel is marked "MANUFACTURED BY THE/-WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.-" ahead of the rear sight and "45-90 W.C.F." at the breech. The very short 20 inch barrel is fitted with a bead front and adjustable sporting rear sight with a Marbles folding tang mounted target rear sight, with a half-length magazine tube. The top tang is marked "-MODEL 1886-", and the lower tang is stamped with the 1884 and 1885 patent dates in two lines behind the trigger with the serial number on the end. It is fitted with a beautiful extra fancy pistol grip style stock and forearm, with the sides of both the forearm and pistol grip area having a nice fine line checkered pattern. The buttstock has been shortened to 12 5/8 inches and a Winchester marked red-rubber recoil padded added.

Fine overall with 70% of the possibly factory refurbished color casehardened finish remaining overall with wear and fading on the sides and underside of the receiver, with better color in the protected areas. The barrel, magazine tube and breech bolt also retain 95% of refinished blue finish overall with the crown of the barrel in the white. The stock and forearm both in very fine with 98% of their varnished finish overall with nice distinct checkering showing only very minor handling marks overall. The oversize recoil pad has been non-factory added. The top of the breech bolt has been drilled and tapped for a peep sight.
