The accompanying factory letter lists this deluxe Model 1886 with an octagon barrel in .40-82 caliber, plain trigger, checkered pistol grip stock, Lyman front and rear sights, and hard rubber shotgun buttplate when received in the warehouse on December 28, 1895 and shipped the same day. The rifle also has the desirable early casehardened receiver found only on Model 1886 rifles manufactured prior to 1902. The rifle is fitted with a Lyman beaded blade front sight, an elevation adjustable rear sight and a folding tang peep sight. The top barrel flat is stamped with the two-line address ahead of the rear sight and "40-82 WCF" at the breech. The lower tang is stamped with the two-line patent dates marking and the serial number. The "H" style checkered forearm and pistol grip stock are XX deluxe walnut. The pistol grip has a Winchester hard rubber cap, and the Winchester shotgun buttplate is hard rubber. The left side of the lower tang is marked "949 XX RB." The assembly number "949" is repeated on the stock inlet. Includes a letter of authenticity signed by Tom Selleck confirming it is from his personal collection.

Very fine. The barrel and magazine tube retain 70% original blue finish with thinning to brown on the balance. 95% original blue remains on the bolt. 40% of original niter blue remains on the loading gate. The remaining surfaces retain 90% original case colors. The wood is fine showing an overcoat of varnish, a couple small chips at the tangs, a few minor handling marks and crisp recut checkering overall. Mechanically excellent. A highly attractive, sought after example of a casehardened deluxe Model 1886 rifle that will be a welcome addition to any Winchester collection. Provenance: The Tom Selleck Collection
