This model was only manufactured c.1872-1874. It has the standard barrel marking and sights, "603" on the barrel and barrel catch along with the back of the cylinder, "FROM WALLEN/PHILIPSBURG" inside the left grip and the matching serial number and "R. PAXSON/BUTTE, MONT./3-19-57" inside the right grip. There are multiple members of the Wallen family in records for Philipsburg, Montana, and the state at large. "R. Paxson" is probably a relative of Montana artist Edgar Samuel Paxson. Other western firearms in the John Fox collection also passed through that family, and Fox's collection tag notes "E.S. PAXSON ESTATE."
Fine with 20% original blue finish, mix of gray and brown patina on the balance, and general mild wear including some dings and scratches. The grips are also fine aside from chips at the toe and have minor scratches and dings. The ejector system and hammer lockup need work. Provenance: The John Fox Collection.
