New York Panel Scene Engraved Smith & Wesson .38 Single Action 1st Model Baby Russian Revolver with Relief Carved Grip

Manufactured from 1876 to 1877. This example features a wonderful profuse Nimschke New York style broad scroll engraving. Amongst the scrollwork on the side plate is a nautical panel scene depicting a sailing ship. A floral blossom is engraved behind the hammer. The right grip panel features a relief carved female bust presumably that of Columbia, the personification of the American spirit. Matching serial numbers are on the butt, cylinder, barrel and barrel latch.

ConditionExcellent as period New York engraved, retaining 98% plus original nickel plating with some light flaking. 97% original case colors remain on the hammer. The grips are excellent with limited hairline age cracks on the bottom, some minor handling marks and crisp carving. Mechanically excellent. Just an attractive period engraved and relief carved stocked Baby Russian. Provenance: Dr. Gerald Klaz collection.
