Description:

The barrel is lightly signed "S Markel" on top and has traditional blade and notch sights. The lock from Pittsburgh hardware dealers Whitmore & Wolff has some scroll and game bird engraving. The silver thumb plate is inscribed "SL." The patch box and some of the other brass furniture display mainly floral engraving patterns. The left side of the butt has incised carving including crosshatched sections along with a silver crescent moon inlay on the cheek rest. The rifle is equipped with adjustable double set triggers. Includes a plain powder horn (no spout plug).

Rating Definition:

Good with a mottled brown patina on the barrel, dark patina on the lock, generally mild oxidation/pitting, some erosion at the breech, aged patina on the brass, generally distinct engraving, and mild overall wear. The stock is good and has nice flame figure, chipping/slivers absent from the forend, a repair between the lock and barrel tang, and mild dings and scratches. Mechanically needs work (replaced sear spring is too stiff). The horn is fine with mild wear.
