Description:

Matchlock firearms were prominent in Japan from their introduction in 1543, through the mid-19th century and were even used until the fall of the samurai in 1877. Some remain in use for ceremonial purposes today. It has an empty slot for a front sight, a high relief flower inset in the upper left of the barrel and an empty slot for another on the upper right, a notch rear sight, brass touch hole cover, and an unknown character marked on the brass lock plate.

Rating Definition:

About good, showing mostly a dark brown patina overall with some scattered patches of mild oxidation and an attractive antique patina on the brass. The touch hole cover pin is absent and the ramrod is broken off in the channel. The wood is fair with some stabilized cracks, a few minor cracks, and some scattered minor handling marks. Mechanically fine.
