Description:

1) Signed Japanese blade in Shirasaya fittings. Currently measuring 20 1/2 inches in overall length, evidence is present that this was once a significantly longer blade. Two mekugi-ana are present, one of which was partially cut through during the shortening, and a three inch long segment of signature which was formerly on the left side has been trimmed down, folded over, and laid into a prepared slot on the right side in gaku-mei style. The bright portion of the blade shows a wavy hamon. 2) Japanese Sword measuring 37 1/2 inches overall, with a 26 inch edge, showing a faint but slightly wavy hamon and fitted with a set of modern furniture with blackened steel components, brown leather wrap, bat-themed decoration, and a black lacquer finished saya. The blade could not be dismounted to check for a signature; the consignor attributes the blade as the work of a smith named "Kanekado" and the furniture to Fred Lohman. A cloth sleeve is included.

Rating Definition:

1) Good overall. The bright section shows some wear and openings in the skin, and the fittings are worn. 2) Very good, with minor spotting and handling marks overall, and a few rust spots on the tsuba.
