Description:

Measuring 35 1/2 inches overall with a 26 inch blade, this sword shows a fine, jagged temper line and a textured silver habaki. The round iron tsuba is decorated with sculpted crane and ocean wave motifs, with the waves also seen on the other fitting. The menuki are copper alloy construction, each sculpted to make a pair of fish with iridescent inlays (appears to be mother of pearl or glass) for the eyes. The saya is green stained wood. The tang is well aged, with a single mekugi-ana and a signature on the left side, attributed as "rakuyo jo ku kunihiro" by the consignor. Included with the sword is an extra iron saya (no internal material or furniture), a cloth pouch, and an appraisal form from Aoi-Art in Tokyo attributing the menuki as unsigned Edo-period work.

Rating Definition:

Very good, with some light handling marks. The fine blade shows some tiny nicks and spots along the edge, along with evidence of light sharpening.
