Cased Pair of Engraved Mortimer Percussion Belt Pistols

A) Mortimer Belt Pistol

Identified by Bonham's in 2007 as passed down from Jean-Baptiste Noel Adolphe Devin per family tradition. The back action locks are signed "Mortimer" and have scroll engraving and sliding safeties. The smoothbore damascus barrels are marked "London" on the top flats and have bead front sights, swivel mounted ramrods, Birmingham proofs on the bottom flats, and engraved and silver banded breeches. The standing breeches are engraved with additional scroll patterns and have integral notch rear sights. The blued furniture is also scroll engraved, and the stocks have silver escutcheons, checkered wrists, and blued belt hooks. The case has a J. Beattie trade label inside the lid, rod, balls, Frith patent flask, tin, "21" marked mold, screwdriver, and small back with shot.

ConditionVery good with 75% browned finish and distinct twist patterns along the barrel, 60% original case colors, 40% original blue, crisp markings and engraving, minor oxidation, and general mild wear. The re-oiled stock is fine and has a small repair between the lock and tang, tension crack at the lock screw, mostly crisp checkering, and light dings and scratches. Mechanically fine. The relined case is very good and has a detached divider and mild overall wear. The accessories are mostly fine with mild age and storage related wear.
