Description:

The Webley-Fosbery revolver was designed by Lt. Col. G. V. Fosbery and utilizes a novel "automatic" mechanism and is one of the most iconic early 20th century handguns though they were and are rare: less than 5,000 were manufactured making them among the rarest of all of the Webley revolvers. The Fosbery is a true revolver with a six-shot revolving cylinder in the .455 version, but it is recoil operated like a semi-automatic pistol. The barrel, frame, and cylinder assembly move rearward and cock the hammer and rotate the cylinder using the distinctive zig-zag grooves. This "automatic" mechanism allows for faster firing while maintaining the low trigger pull of a single action revolver or pistol and also allows for the use of more powerful cartridges compared to the early semi-automatic pistols. Some are known to have been privately purchased as sidearms by British military officers and used through World War II. It has a fixed front sight, rare adjustable rear sight and short cylinder, "P.WEBLEY & SON.LONDON & BIRMINGHAM." on the top of the rib, "WEBLEY·FOSBERY" on the left side of the trop strap, the winged bullet trademark and "455 CORDITE" on the left side of the frame, Birmingham nitro proofs, the full serial number on the right side of the frame, and matching partial or full serial numbers on the cylinder and most of the internal components. Includes a letter of authenticity signed by Tom Selleck confirming it is from his personal collection.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 90% bright original high polish blue finish remaining on the barrel and frame, a period refinished cylinder, dings around the pin on the right side of the frame, and minor overall wear. The grips are excellent and have attractive natural faded "chocolate" coloration, a small chip on the front corner at the top of the left grip (piece present), distinct checkering, and light dings. Mechanically excellent. Provenance: The Tom Selleck Collection
