Description:

Developed for possible sale to the Austrian Army, the 1893 Gas Trap Revolver never left the prototype stages, with less than 100 believed manufactured in total. A novel design, the 1893 uses a spring-loaded movable cylinder that is automatically pressed forward by the falling hammer to engage the breech of the barrel and seal the cylinder to the breech. By eliminating the gas gap, no pressure is wasted to gas escaping through the gap. A similar system would later be put into use by the Nagant Model 1895 revolver. Marked "WAFFENFABRIK/STEYR" on the left side plate, with "60." on the barrel and frame, half-moon blade front sight and a notch rear sight. The hammer, cylinder, trigger and other components are finished in a fine golden straw color, with an externally mounted spring for the crane, "270.41.02" on the underside of the barrel, checkered grips and a lanyard ring.

Rating Definition:

Exceptionally fine with 85% plus original blue finish, showing mild spotting, areas of brown patina, and mild handling marks. 75% of the original straw colors are present on the hammer, cylinder, and other parts, with some areas of brown patina, minor spotting and light handling marks. The grips are very fine with some light dings. Mechanically excellent.
