At the 1982 Safari Club International convention at the Tropicana hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, the SCI introduced the SCI Big Five Masterpiece Collection of highly embellished, hand crafted custom rifles. Fantastically engraved and gold inlaid rifles with engraving based on original oil paintings by well known artists who supported the SCI. This exceptional highly embellished Champlin Arms rifle was the second in the series when it was displayed and auctioned at the convention in 1983. Beaded blade front sight on an integral ramp, and drift adjustable 100 yard rear express notch sight on a raised integral quarter rib, marked "CHAMPLIN FIREARMS INC. ENID, OKLAHOMA" with gold inlaid caliber marking on the left side of the chamber, gold inlaid bands at the muzzle and breech, and flourishes of fine scroll engraving at the breech. The action has contrasting coin finished panels with fine floral scroll engraving, gold inlaid borders, gold inlaid "No. 2" marking on the receiver wall, engine turned bolt, and engraved and gold inlaid bolt handle knob with knurled panels. The top of the action is factory drilled and tapped for scope mounting with filler screws in place. The floorplate is finished in a combination of plum blue and coin gray with a relief cut gold inlaid charging bull rhinoceros at the center and fine gold inlaid and scroll borders and signed "DWG-83" for Daniel Goodwin, who was a master engraver for Colt. Fitted with an extra fancy figured, checkered pistol grip stock with fleur-de-lis carved accents, ebony forend cap, steel grip cap engraved and gold inlaid with the SCI lion logo, raised cheekpiece, and leather wrapped recoil pad. Includes a leather bound Huey oak storage case containing two ebony handled turnscrews, ebony handled cleaning rod, brass containers for patches, solvent, and oil, ebony handled scope brush, Leupold VARI-X 1.5-5x scope, and cleaning rod heads.

Excellent with 99% plus bright original high polish blue finish remaining, sharp markings, finely executed engraving, and some light handling and cycling marks. The stock is also excellent with sharp checkering, some small scratches visible on the left side, and attractive figure. Mechanically excellent. Scope is excellent with clear optics. Case is excellent with some small exterior dings. The brass accessories have an overall patinaed appearance but are otherwise very good.
