Description:

Manufactured in 1916 by Colt with a matching engraved Colt .22 conversion kit. Both pieces have been fully engraved on all the metal surfaces in a German interpretation of a rather tight floral pattern with a full punch-dot background that covers everything except the factory markings (which have been outlined with a single line border), mainspring housing and small area of the grip safety. "REM", reportedly the initials of Brigadier General Richard Eugene Mittelstaedt (1884-1973), have been nicely engraved in a script pattern on the right side, front frame extension and the under side of the recoil spring housing of the slide. The engraving was reportedly done by Mr. Boessler from the Heym factory in 1949 and 1950. The left side of the slide is marked " PATENTED APR.20.1897, SEPT.9.1902./DEC.19.1905. FEB.14.1911, APRIL .19.1913." with a space, followed by " COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO./HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." with the Rampant Colt behind the slide serrations. The right side of the slide is marked " MODEL OF 1911. U.S. ARMY". It has a WWII blued High Standard barrel marked with a HS and P proof on each side. It has the standard fixed front and rear sights and an all blue magazine. The accompanying pre-war Colt .22 cal conversion unit has also been engraved in the same matching pattern, which has the floating chamber and adjustable rear sight. The left side of the slide is marked with "CONVERSION UNIT, COLT, AUTOMATIC CAL .22L.R." that includes the recoil spring, extractor, 22 cal magazine spare flat main spring housing, and slide stop. All of the conversion components are housed in a nice brown leather storage case.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as custom embellished overall with 99% of the custom high polished blue surfaces after the engraving was performed. The grips are also very fine. Mechanically excellent. The conversion kit also retains 99% of the professionally blued surfaces and the leather case is in fine condition. A very nice engraved M1911A1 pistol with a very nice complementary engraved Colt .22 cal conversion kit.
