Manufactured by the late gunmaker Louis Smith (1927-2000) of Hacker Martin's 20th century "Johnson City School" of gunmakers in Tennessee around the 1970s. The barrel has traditional blade and notch sights and "Louis Smith" signed on the top of the breech section. The rifle is also equipped with non-adjustable double set triggers. It is fitted with a "THOs/KETLAND" marked lock with rainproof pan. The brass furniture features attractive scroll patterns, eagles on the side plate, cheekpiece, and patch box finial; hunter's stars on the right side of the wrist and left side of the butt, a crescent moon on the left side of the wrist, and floral blooms on the pierced toe plate. The beautifully figured stock has nice molding and distinct tear drop flats.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 90% plus original brown finish on the barrel, aged patina on the brass, some oxidation concentrated on the lock and barrel at the vent, and gray patina on the balance of the lock. The stock is also very fine and has highly attractive figure, clean shaping, and minor handling and storage marks. Mechanically excellent.
