Excellent and Attractive Winchester Model 1873 Lever Action Rifle

Manufactured in 1885. This rifle has the Third Model receiver with integral dust cover rail and dust cover with serrated rear edges. The barrel and magazine have the Winchester charcoal blue finish. The forearm cap, receiver and dust cover have the Winchester high polish blue finish. The loading gate is niter blue. The hammer, trigger, lever and crescent buttplate are color casehardened. The stock and forearm are straight grain American walnut with a semi-gloss varnish finish. The barrel has a standard sporting style front sight with nickel-silver blade and a sporting style rear, buckhorn, rear sight with serrated edges. The upper receiver tang is factory drilled and tapped. The crescent buttplate has a sliding brass trapdoor, and the butt trap contains a four-piece, steel cleaning rod. The top of the barrel has the two-line legend ahead of the rear sight and caliber designation in front of the receiver. "44 CAL." is marked in script on the brass cartridge elevator. The upper receiver tang has the model marking. The serial number is stamped in script numerals on the lower tang.

ConditionExcellent. This rifle is all original, shows only limited storage wear, and retains at least 95% blue and color casehardened finish. The barrel and magazine have nearly all of the charcoal blue finish. The forearm cap, receiver, and dust cover retain 97% plus high polish blue finish; wear is limited to some scattered spots of discoloration on the receiver sides and side plates and the dust cover. The loading gate has 95% original nitre blue finish. Most of the blue is present on the bolt. The hammer, trigger, lever and crescent buttplate have 98% original strong case colors. The stock and forearm are in the same excellent condition and retain 98% original finish; wear is limited to several very minor storage marks. This is an outstanding example of an 1880s production Winchester Model 1873 lever action rifle. It would be difficult to find a more attractive, excellent example of a standard grade Winchester Model 1873 Rifle.
