Description:

The Model 1866 or "improved Henry" was one of the earliest and most widely used repeating rifles in the American West and saw use in conflicts over land, gold, and other resources on the frontier in the second half of the 19th century in the hands of settlers, Native Americans, outlaws, lawmen, and hunters. It is the direct descendant of the Henry rifle and traces its lineage back to earlier repeaters like the Volcanic. This rifle was manufactured in 1889. The barrel has the two-line Winchester address/King's improvement patent marking, a replacement front dovetail blade sight and an elevation adjustable buckhorn rear sight. The serial number is stamped behind the lever latch. The buttstock is fitted with a trapdoor iron buttplate (cleaning rod not included).

Rating Definition:

Very good overall as radiating a classic "been there, done that" appearance consistent with use on the frontier. The barrel and magazine have a mixture of gray and dark patinas. The receiver has an attractive mellow aged patina. The aged darkened buttplate is pitted. The wood proudly wears authentic wear and scaring from authentic use. Mechanically excellent. A Winchester Model 1866 with appealing "working gun" character.
