Description:

Manufactured in 1906 and 1907, this is one of only 841 U.S. Model 1898 Krag-Jorgenson .22 Rimfire training rifles manufactured. Externally, these rifles are identical to a standard Model 1898, including the receiver markings, with the only addition being the "CAL./.22" marking. These rifles have an auxiliary extractor .22 extractor that the standard bolt extractor interfaces with, and the breech is offset so that the standard firing pin works with the rimfire ammunition. These rifles were made both as complete rifles and as barreled actions, with this example being the former, identifiable by the cartouche on the left made up of four script letters and "R.D.R." on the bottom of the wrist behind the trigger guard. Fitted with standard blade and folding ladder sights.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retains 85% plus of the original blue finish and case colors with the balance having thinned to mostly a smooth grey patina. The reoiled wood is also very fine with a crisp cartouche and a few scattered minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
