Description:

Based on the serial number range this cadet rifle is considered a second model version with blade front and late M1884 Buffington rear sight adjustable for both windage and elevation. It has the late features such as the 3-click tumbler, serrated trigger, two piece trigger guard and trigger bar, and smooth buttplate with no trapdoor. The barrel is correctly marked with the "V/P/eagle head" proofs, and the breech block is marked "US MODEL 1884". The lock plate is marked with the large American eagle and "US SPRINGFIELD", and the top of the buttplate is marked with the large "US". The stock is the correct full length military version that has a boxed "SWP 1890" cartouche on the left side and a circle "P" proof behind the trigger plate. The bottom of the stock ahead of the trigger guard is also stamped with a rack number "29". Includes original cleaning rod.

Rating Definition:

Fine overall with 70% slightly faded original blue finish remaining. The balance is a plum/brown patina with thinning and wear on the barrel at the rear and where a bayonet was fitted and trigger guard edges. There are a couple of small spots of pitting present with some thinning on the sides of the hammer, the spur area, and the entire buttplate. The breech block and tang retain 70% original case colors. The stock is very good showing a nice even original brown color overall with numerous light pressure dents and dings and some heavier marks in the area of the cartouche. The cartouche is clear and mostly visible aside from some scratches that go across it.
