Description:

Included factory letter states this Musket was "Received in the warehouse on March 22, 1895 / Shipped from the warehouse on January 5, 1915, with 369 other arms to order number 595814". Standard markings and features besides the forearm cap with a bar for a sword or knife bayonet (Lee-Metford bayonet); the bar fills the tip of the cleaning rod channel, and the rifle is not fitted with the cleaning rod found on rifles that mount a socket bayonet. (This adaptation was made for a specific order for a militia or guard unit). The heel of the buttplate is numbered "43". The rifle lacks the proof and inspection markings found on Winchester-Hotchkiss rifles that were purchased by the Ordnance Department. With 1896 dated "arrow/WD" British proofed Lee-Metford pattern 1888 bayonet, and scabbard.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retaining 95% blue on the barrel with light muzzle wear and a scratch towards the end, 70% muted original case colors visible on the frame with spotting and brown patina. Wood is very fine with some light handling marks, small dents and scratches. Included bayonet is good, with a slightly bent muzzle ring and will not fit on the gun in its current state. Mechanically excellent.
