Description:

This c. 1805-1810 artillery officer's saber has a curved 30 inch blade (measured straight) with panels of niter blue terminating in scroll designs and decorated with flourishes of gilt floral and martial patterns and "CAPPER & CO/Warranted" on the right side of the blade. The silver plated brass hilt has a Ketland style eagle pommel, alternating ball design on the knuckle guard, and a serrated bone grip. The leather scabbard also has silver plated fittings. Capper & Co. markings have been seen on a variety of swords as well as Birmingham proofed firearms.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 75% original niter blue, bright original gold in the distinct etching, and mottled silver-gray patina on the balance. The hilt has strong original silver plating in the protected areas, aged patina on the silver and the exposed brass, distinct eagle design, and minor age and handling related wear on the grip. The scabbard is good and also has traces of original silver plating and aged patina on the silver and brass, and the leather body has crackling and flaking but remains complete.
