U.S. Springfield Model 1855 Percussion Rifle-Musket with Desirable Long Range Rear Sight and Bayonet

47,115 Model 1855 rifle-muskets were manufactured at Springfield Armory between 1857 and 1861, and another 12,158 were produced at Harpers Ferry. The 1855 was the first U.S. martial arm designed for Minie bullets in .58 caliber and were a considerable advantage over earlier military rifles. They were widely used in the Civil War and first saw action in the Coeur d'Alene War in the Pacific Northwest in 1858. It has the standard markings and early features including the long range rear sight with an 1858 dated lock and barrel (faint). Includes a U.S. socket bayonet.

ConditionVery good, retaining a bright repolished barrel, lock and fittings with some scattered light pitting, light barrel markings, and sharp lock markings. Stock is good as sanded and re-oiled with an absent sliver at the right ahead of the front band, lightly rounded edges, chips on both sides of the barrel tang, and some scattered scratches, chips and dents. Included bayonet is fine with some scattered light pitting, some light surface rust, and sharp edges. Mechanically excellent.
