Description:

Tipping & Lawden were one of only two foreign firms licensed by Sharps to manufacture these pistols in Europe and manufactured around 6,000 between 1860s and 1870s (an estimated 2,000 in .22 rimfire). Most are well-worn, but this example is high condition and has beautiful engraved scrollwork on nearly all of the frame as well as flourishes on the sides of the barrels and a border pattern on the muzzles. The grips are the standard acanthus scrollwork patterned gutta percha used on their pistols. The silver-plated frame is marked "TIPPING & LAWDEN/SHARPS PATENT" on the left. The serial number is on the frame under the barrel cluster. Provenance: Firearms for Freedom Collection

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 90% plus of the original high polish blue finish, 98% plus of the age darkened silver plating, nearly all of the original case colors on the hammer, crisp engraving, and high edge wear. The slightly undersized grips are very fine with limited handling marks and crisp patterns. Mechanically excellent. One of the finest Tipping & Lawden pepperboxes we have had the pleasure of cataloging.
