Description:

Manufactured from 1876 to 1877, this is a rare civilian variation of the desirable Second Model Schofield. Estimates place the number of civilian guns made at approximately 650 (see Supica and Nahas' "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson" for further information). As a commercial variation the revolver correctly lacks U.S. sub inspector marks and "US" marking as found on martial contracts. The barrel lug has the two-line S&W address/patent date marking on the left side and one-line Schofield patent marking on the right side. Matching serial numbers are found on the butt, cylinder and right grip panel.

Rating Definition:

Very good as generous amounts of original nickel plating remain in and around the protected areas, otherwise the revolver has a smooth brown-gray patina. The grips are fine with minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent. A civilian Schofield rare to find in any condition.
