A very similar pair of pistols is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art (accession number: 2011.361–.362) and identified as signed Francisco Pintan and dated 1757 and as likely made in Mexico by a Spanish-trained gunsmith. The barrels flare to around 1 1/8 inches at the muzzles and have light engraving and inlaid gold floral and scroll patterns and blank panels on top of the breech sections. The locks have scroll engraving. The belt hooks have heart shaped piercings at the front. The silver panels have scroll patterns with bestial designs including a double headed eagle on the forend. The stocks also have silver pins. The trigger guards are pierced.

Good with bright gold inlays, mottled gray and brown patina on the barrel and lock, light aged patina on the silver, and mild overall wear. The stock is also good and has some chips by the lock and slight cracks in the forend tip. Mechanically fine.
