Description:

This fine blade and accoutrements likely came from the personal armories of the Princes of Hohenlohe-Langenburg, the majority of whose lands laid in northeastern Baden-Wurttemberg. The princes most likely associated with this piece are Ernst II (1863-1950) or Gottfried (1897-1960), who were the 7th and 8th Princes of Hohenlohe-Langenburg, respectively. The elaborately blued and gilt blade features an unsharpened, single edge. The guard is relief cast German silver. Blade: 19 5/8 inches. OAL: 25 1/2 inches. Wood scabbard wrapped in black leather with a secondary dagger slot (dagger absent) and German silver fittings. Throat bears the mark "STROBLBERGER/MUNCHEN" (active from the early-late 1800s). The included paired baldric (galabandelier) is of matching black leather with a pair of silver wire bands, multiple German silver mounts, high relief stags head on the front with a lanyard ring and attached chain retaining a vent pick that has an attached holster on the baldric and arms/belted badge of the Princes of Hohenlohe-Langenburg. This fine sword would have been worn by the princes themselves or high ranking members of their court while on a hunt.

Rating Definition:

Exceptionally fine, retaining most of the blue and gilt finishes on the excellent blade, the remainder mostly bright with a few scattered patches of brown patina. The hilt is very fine with minimal handling evidence. The scabbard is fine with some age related cracking and the silver mounting at the throat and suspension band loose. The baldric is very good with some age related wear on the leather and the mountings showing generally an attractive aged patina.
