Attractive Cast Bronze Miniature Copy of Cannone di San Paolo by Cosimo Cenni

This is a masterfully cast miniature copy of the Cannone di San Paolo by Cosimo Cenni, which was cast in 1638, and now resides in the Museo del Bargello in Florence, Italy. The most prominent feature of the piece is the cascabel, which portrays the bust of St. Paul. The belt at the breech is marked "N 407 - > 2 > 500" and "OPERA DI COSIMO CENNI. FIORENTINO". Above the touch hole the date is marked in Roman numerals. The second most prominent feature is the dolphins which are made up of a pair of lions couchant, each with a forepaw resting upon a sphere. The remainder of the cannon is nearly covered in floral motifs, stands of arms, cherubs, and representations of Minerva and Mars to either side of the arms of the House of Medici. The overall length is approximately 22 3/4 inches, and approximately 6 1/2 inches across the trunnions. A collection type mark, "53.39", in white is on the bottom on the central belt. Includes a custom made hardwood stand that the cannon sits atop.

ConditionExcellent, showing mostly an attractively aged patina on the bronze with some brighter wear on high spots, giving the piece some attractive contrast amongst the sculpting. The wood stand is also excellent with minimal wear. An excellent piece that will instantly add a touch of refinement to the home or office!
