Description:

Only a total of 3,000 of these pistols were manufactured by Simeon North circa 1808-1810. They were used by the U.S. Navy in the historic battles of the War of 1812 against the British. It features an unmarked, pin-fastened, smoothbore barrel; spread wing eagle over "U. STATES" below the brass flash pan, "S. NORTH/BERLIN/CON" on the tail of the lock, an iron belt hook on the left, brass remaining furniture, replacement ramrod, and smooth walnut stock with swelled pommel.

Rating Definition:

Good as reconverted to flintlock configuration with gray and brown patina on the barrel, lock, and belt hook along with minor oxidation/pitting, deep artificially aged patina on the pan, mellow aged patina on the brass furniture, and mild overall wear. The refinished stock is good and has a repaired crack in the wrist, crack in the forend tip secured by the crude, possibly period added brass strap, and mild dings and small flakes. Mechanically fine. These scarce pistols were the primary sidearms of the U.S. Navy during the War of 1812.
