Manufactured in circa 1910, this rifle features blued chopperlump barrels respectively signed “LYON & LYON 16 CHOWRINGHEE ROAD. CALCUTTA” and “JAS. LYON LATE WITH JAS. PURDEY & SONS LONDON”, respectively engraved “FOR CORDITE” and “.400/.360 CARTRIDGE” towards the breech and each engraved with a band of stylized foliage at the breech end. Concave rib with partially matted ramp mounted bead front sight and quarter rib with one standing notch sight and two folding notch sights each with platinum inlaid center line and graduated to 300 yards. Casehardened treble grip action signed “LYON & LYON” within ribbons on each side, with blued removable firing pin bushings, blued toplever, automatic safety with gold inlaid “SAFE”, blued floorplate, casehardened trigger plate and blued trigger guard. The whole very finely deep chiseled in low relief with flowering scrollwork. The underside of the barrels and water table struck with Birmingham nitro proof marks. Figured 15 inch walnut pistol grip stock including orange rubber recoil pad, with raised cheek piece and panels of multipoint checkering to the grip and forearm, the latter with blued Anson push button release. Casehardened furniture comprising pistol grip cap and forearm iron deep chiseled en suite with the action. The underside of the butt with blank silver oval initial escutcheon and blued sling eye, the corresponding sling eye fitted beneath the barrel. Weight 10 lbs. 10 oz. Excellent as professionally refurbished. The barrels, action and furniture each retain nearly all of their renewed blued and casehardened finish. The deep chiseled decoration remains crisp and finely detailed. The stock has been refinished and retains well defined checkering with occasional scattered minor age related storage and handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
