Blued steel chopper lump barrels with single steel bead sight on the smooth, concave solid rib which is marked "BOSS & Co 15 DOVER STREET, PICCADILLY, LONDON, LONDON. W." and "MADE IN ENGLAND". The barrels also have decorative fine scroll engraving at the breech end of the rib and bands of engraving around either breech. The barrels have 3 1/2 inch chambers with ejectors and standard London proofs on the flats including the nitro proof. Casehardened sidelock action featuring fine classic English rose and scroll engraving, "BOSS & Co." on either side, single gold inlaid pin on either side, bushed firing pins, double triggers, automatic tang safety, and left handed barrel release lever. Beautifully figured, multi-point checkered walnut forearm with Anson button release and engraved fittings and straight grip stock with teardrop carved flats, blank inscription oval, leather and orange rubber recoil pad. The makers have kindly confirmed that this very rare double 8 bore hammerless ejector wildfowling shotgun was order on August 7, 1929, by Herbert Pulitzer, the publishing heir, and completed on August 1, 1930. Herbert, along with his brothers Joseph II and Ralph, took over the family publishing empire after their father and the namesake of the famous Pulitzer Prize, Joseph Pulitzer, passed in 1911. Its original specification lists two triggers, 28 inch barrels with full choke in both, weight of gun 11 lbs. 11 1/2 oz., weight of barrels 6 lbs. 1 oz., weight of trigger pulls respectively 3 1/2 lbs. and 4 lbs., stock with rubber recoil pad, bend 2 1/4 inch – 1 5/16 inch, length 15 7/16 inch – 15 5/16 inch – 15 13/16 inch, cast on 1/2 inch, left hand lever. The stock currently measures as it did when it left Boss & Co. in 1930.

Very fine, retaining 90% plus blue with an area of storage wear on both barrels 19 inches from the breech, some light wear at the muzzle, and some general dings and scratches. 80% vibrant case colors with some fading to silver and some very minor spotting that has been cleaned. The stock has a chip from the toe on the left side and the recoil pad has lost its leather wrap and is showing moderate deterioration, otherwise the wood is very good with numerous dings and scratches and well-defined checkering. Mechanically excellent.
