The blued receiver features beautifully detailed factory gold inlaid animals, including a pheasant in flight on he left, a setter on the underside, and a quail on the right. Highly figured, deluxe multi-point checkered walnut beavertail forend with rotary latch release, and ebony tip insert and replacement straight grip stock with "L/C/II" in the gold initial oval, and leather bound recoil pad. Includes a second set of 28 inch solid rib 12 gauge barrels with 2 3/4 inch chambers with ejectors, "MOD"/"FULL" chokes, and its own equally figured splinter forend. The Buffalo Bill Historical Center letter confirms the gold inlays, automatic safety, and the length and chokes of both barrel sets when the final inspection was completed on December 16, 1955, for Leslie Combs II. The gun was subsequently sent back to the factory three times for repair and refinish work, once in 1963, 1964, and 1968. Leslie Combs II was the founder of Spendthrift Farm, a horse breeding operation in Kentucky that is still in business today. According to an included letter from Brownell Combs II, the son of Leslie, this gun was presented to his father by his friend and hunting partner John M. Olin, who, at the time was the Chairman of the Board for the Olin Corporation which owned Winchester. Also includes a leather takedown case for the set with Combs' initial on the lid and label inside, snap caps, canvas cover, and cleaning tools.
